Sapna Tawfik
/ Painter
Sapna Tawfik came from a conservative Indian family. As the oldest of three siblings, Sapna experienced life when she got married, divorced, diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, remarried and moved to Egypt. She began creating art as Sapna Tawfik. Inspired by the likes of Picasso, Jason Pollock and MF Hussain, Sapna’s creations depict multi-layered representation of emotions, often unspoken and underrepresented, through strokes, shapes, and colours.
Sapna’s self-taught journey in the art world is faced with many challenges - mastering the skill of drawing through doodling; struggling with Fibromyalgia while keeping active in her creations; and learning proper techniques from family and private art classes. Through intuition and a deeper understanding of her emotions, Sapna exemplifies her intrigue for her mental state through her free-hand creations, allows her feelings guide her along, resulting in a vibrant spectrum of colours, symbols, and depth.
To create art from within requires an in-depth understanding and appreciation to one’s emotions, as Sapna depicts a silent expression of her emotions through varying shades of colour, elevated into an understanding of the cultures that impact her approach and perspectives in art, and life itself.
In Sapna’s inaugural collaboration with Aurum, Sapna empowers and encourages all to seek one’s uniqueness. The embracing of each of our distinctive feature allows us to appreciate the beauty of everyone, and that the authentic self is different across all cultures. In a four-collage painting, Sapna presents an exploratory journey through emotions: “Happiness” depicts growing wisdom and knowledge through constant evolution; “Vigour” channels balanced growth of energies; “Struggle” expresses the chaotic clashes from one’s body, mind, and soul; and “Enlightenment” realises the truth significance and duality of emotions, i.e Sapna’s interpretation of knowing oneself truthfully.
Demonstrating her flair for marvellous colour hues and vibrant expressions, Sapna’s Awakening coincides with one’s emotional pilgrimage for understanding and self actualisation, ever evolving an observation with insight to be discovered and admired.
